Your Spring Septic Checklist

Spring has come! For real this time.

But before you rush out the door and off to your cabin to get things opened up, we want to remind you to take a minute and make sure you’re thinking about the less-than-glamourous parts of owning your own cottage.

Your cabin’s septic system is an essential piece of your vacation property and is not something to ignore. The more actively you manage and service your septic, the more likely you are to identify issues before they arise and address system malfunctions before they become a liability.

When was the last time you had your septic pumped?

If you don’t remember, it’s probably time to schedule it. We recommend pumping every three to five years, depending on the number of people in your home or cabin. Our septic trucks are already getting scheduled up, so be sure you think ahead and get something scheduled.

When was the last time you had your septic inspected or serviced?

Now’s the time. You’re better off to have a septic service and not need it than to need one and not have one. But before everyone comes up for Memorial Day or whenever your first cabin get-together is, make sure you call Septic Check to have an inspection done on your system. Our techs will be able to tell you the condition of your system, what to pay attention to, what services to prioritize, and how to take care of some of the essentials of septic care yourself.

Are you ready for freezing?

Lastly, remember that it still freezes in April and May. And depending where you are — like some of our customers in far northern Minnesota, there’s been snow in June. So make sure you’re taking that into consideration when you prepare to have your water turned on at the cabin. Pipes can still freeze — depending how deep they’re buried — and messes can still be made. Make sure you’re taking the right steps and making the right accommodations for the weather.

At Septic Check, we’re here to help you get the most out of your property by getting the most out of your septic system. Contact us today to schedule service or an inspection.
